ITINERARY IN DETAIL
Day 1: Travel from Dar es Salaam to the Selous Game Reserve.
At 8 a.m., you will be picked up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and given a short overview of the safari before driving 6 hours to the Selous game reserve. You will eat your lunch on the way, check into the camp in the late afternoon, take a brief rest, and then depart for an evening boat ride and overnight at the African safari camp.
Day 2: Game drive in the Selous
Enjoy a game drive inside the park after breakfast with a picnic lunch, and prepare to see a huge variety of animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, hyenas, and others. You’ll also see a wide range of birds, as well as beautiful landscapes with a diverse topography that includes wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia woodland, and higher ground with expansive views of distant mountains. You will have lunch and relax in the afternoon before going on a game drive and spending the night at the African safari camp.
Day 3: Game drive and walking safari in the Selous game reserve
Leave for a morning walk in the Selous forest, where you could see elephants, different tree species, birds, and local people, then return to the camp for breakfast before heading inside the park for a game drive with your packed lunch. While dinner and overnight at the African safari camp, take a game drive for a chance to see lions, bears, hunting dogs, and more.
Day 4: Dar es Salaam to Selous
Enjoy an en-route game drive after breakfast from the camp with your packed lunches, then drive 5 hours to Dar es Salaam, arriving late afternoon.

Tanzania is open all-year-long, the best wildlife viewing months in Tanzania are during the Dry season from late June to October.
Make sure you plan ahead if seeing the wildebeest migration is the main reason for your journey.
The best time to see the Serengeti migration is from June to September, but you’ll have to stay in various parts of the park at different times of the migration.
