7 Days Journey of the Wildebeest

Overview

This is a one-of-a-kind tour that focuses on the Serengeti and the Great Migration. You’ll spend at least four nights in the park, with two nights in the Central Area (home to the park’s greatest concentration of big cats) and two nights in the Migration Area (depending on the season). We’ve planned this tour so that you end your safari in the Serengeti’s most remote location and ride from there to your next stop.

Itinerary in detail

Day 1: Arrive in Arusha, Tanzania, and visit the Lake Manyara National Park.

At 8 a.m., you will be picked up from your hotel and taken on a scenic ride through the Great Rift Valley for a full day game trip. The park has spectacular scenery and is well known for its lush acacia forest, giant figs, and mahogany trees, as well as an expanding population of baboons and blue monkeys, despite its limited size (205 square miles). Giraffes, tigers, impalas, and a large number of buffaloes are among the park’s permanent tenants. Hippos can also be seen in big numbers on the lake. The scenery of Lake Manyara are breathtaking, and game drives around the lake have incredible photo opportunities with giraffes and buffaloes in the foreground and the lake in the background. There are some optional tours available, such as a cycle tour or a boat excursion. Back to the camp for dinner in the afternoon.

NOTE: Tarangire NP can be substituted for this park, or you can add an extra day to visit both. You may also choose to upgrade your standard of accommodation.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater – Lake Manyara National Park
We’ll begin the day with a move to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, then descend into the crater floor for an amazing morning of wildlife viewing in one of the world’s most beautiful areas. Ascend the crater and move to your hotel after a great afternoon game trip. The Ngorongoro Crater is regarded as one of the natural wonders of the world. The crater covers 102 square miles and has 2.000-foot-high walls, making it a virtual Noah’s ark that is home to almost all species of East African wildlife. It’s one of the few places on the globe where you can see a Black Rhino in its natural habitat. A dam, several swamps, a soda lake with a large concentration of flamingos, a park, and open plains can all be found within the crater. It’s also known for its elephants, which are the world’s tallest and have enormous tusks. The Ngorongoro Crater is a Natural Wonder of the World.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater
The Serengeti National Park is open for the whole day. We are totally accommodating to your needs, and this day will be planned around your preferences. Your guide will cover the best timings for you on each day of the safari, including game drives and wake-up times. You might, for example, go on a morning game drive, then return to the camp for lunch and relaxation before going on an afternoon game drive, or you could go on a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch.
NOTE: You will have the option of downgrading or upgrading your lodging level.

Serengeti National Park, Day 4
The Serengeti National Park is open for the whole day.

Serengeti National Park (Days 5–6) (Following the Great Migration)
You will be transported through remote areas throughout the vast Serengeti plains in search of the Great Migration on these two unforgettable days. The areas you visit depend on the time of year and may be as far north as the Serengeti’s remote northern border with Kenya, or as far south as the Ndutu District, or even as far west as the Serengeti’s western border.

NOTE: You will have the option of downgrading or upgrading your lodging level.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park departs

We recommend getting up really early on this day to go on an early morning game drive (when the animals are more active) and see one of the most beautiful sunrises you’ll ever see. It’s really one of the most amazing things you can do. We’ll return to the camp for a delicious brunch before heading to the airstrip for your flight back to Arusha, or wherever your next incredible destination may be (i.e. Zanzibar). Alternatively, you might opt to sit at the camp for a bit of rest instead of going for the early morning game trip.
