2 Days Ngorongoro & Tarangire Classic Safari

2 Days Ngorongoro & Tarangire Classic Safari

Just like a short story, a 2 Days Ngorongoro & Tarangire Classic Safari bears moments that linger long after one is done. Perhaps it is the sudden quietness like when you descend into Ngorongoro Crater or elephants appearing out of Tarangire’s haze.

This journey begins the moment you arrive to Tanzania as you begin to traverse two of the country’s most remarkable parks. In just two days, you are guaranteed more than what you imagined was possible. Wide savannahs, concealed waterholes, and a crater that seems to hold a miniature world within it.

If you have ever had the question whether you can experience wildlife in Tanzania the answer is yes in just a short period of time.

Safari Overview

Depending on your travel arrangements, your safari will either start at Kilimanjaro International Airport or at Moshi. From there, you will head towards Tarangire National Park spending the day with its ancient baobabs and herds of elephants as you spend the night near the park before heading out to the Ngorongoro Crater the following day. You will descend into the sheltered basin and will be returned to Arusha by nightfall.

While concise, this journey promises an unhurried experience as each place unfolds.

Full Itinerary

Day 1 – Welcome to Tarangire National Park

It’s morning when you land. You might be a little exhausted but desperate to prove to yourself that this vacation is on and real. Your driver is waiting for you either at the airport or in Moshi, holding a placard that meets all your manner of expectations.

As you get closer to Tarangire, you will be passing farmlands and tiny villages. California is home to people sitting on meadows filled with sunflowers, as well as women and children. On a good day, you can even spot the escarpment’s edge and how it meets the wide land.

Every single one of Tarangire’s fifteen game elephants look so old possessing stoic airs. You feel enhanced sense of worth; tired but gleefully. Definitely more tired than you thought you were going to be.Your guide pays close attention to the road, stopping for a possible glimpse of lions or giraffes to the side. The riverbed winds throughout the valley, and animals are drawn to it in long, snaking lines.

You take a simple picnic lunch under the shade, which consists of sandwiches, fruit, something cold to drink, and other easy-to-eat foods. The landscape still morphs right in front of your eyes as you enjoy your meal.

In the late afternoon, you soften to that dreamy golden glow you might’ve seen in pictures. Afterward, you arrive at your lodge in the evening, feeling a comfortable kind of tired.

Day 2 – Exploring Ngorongoro’s Enclosed World

You’re on the move early, eating breakfast quickly or packed to enjoy on the road. The drive up to Ngorongoro has rolling hills of soft green. The small villages come into view, with tiny gardens, maize fields, and goats perched on steep hillsides.

Your guide stops at the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater viewing point for the first time in years. Most visitors are captivated in silence the very first time they see it because it is far too breathtaking to describe and feels surreal as though it is a perfect piece of a dream come to life.

Moving down the track feels leisurely. The walls give way behind you, and the interior appears claustrophobic yet infinite. Within the frame, you might spot some zebra quietly grazing, buffalo standing among the grass, and elephants carefully making their way through the vegetation.

Your guide advances at a steady pace, sometimes pausing to let you view a lion napping in a shaded spot or a hyena crossing the track.

Lunch is a picnic close to the hippo pool, the air mixing with warm grass and water. There is little speech exchanged during eating. A few places seem to require your attention more than your words, and this was one of them.

You digress to climb out of the crater towards the afternoon. The path now leads back to Arusha, retracing the highlands and fields that were passed during the morning.

Evening brings you back into town. You might be a little quiet and dusty. This safari may be short, but it often leaves more impressions than expected.
